CELPIP Writing Task 2 Tips

In this task, you will be presented with a survey or an issue, and you will need to choose between two options and justify your choice. You have 26 minutes to complete this task, and your response should be between 150 to 200 words.

1. Start Without a Greeting

Since surveys are usually anonymous, skip the greeting and jump straight into your argument.

- Begin with a clear, direct statement like, "I believe option A is superior for several reasons."

- Alternatively, you could start with, "I think implementing a flexible work schedule is beneficial for several reasons."

2. Structuring Your Reasons

Present your reasons clearly and organized. Aim for 2 or 3 strong points, dedicating a paragraph to each. This structure helps you organize your thoughts and makes it easier for the examiner to follow your argument.

For instance: "One significant advantage of a flexible work schedule is boosting employee morale. Happier employees tend to be more productive, which can lead to better overall company performance."

3. Use Advanced Vocabulary

Task 2 is an opportunity to showcase your vocabulary. Opt for more sophisticated words when possible.

- Instead of saying "more money," use "financially beneficial."

- Instead of "better," use "more advantageous."

- For example: "Flexible work schedules are financially advantageous for the company as they reduce overhead costs."

4. Personal Opinions Matter

Don't hesitate to include your opinions if you feel strongly about the topic. Expressing your stance can strengthen your argument and add a human element to your writing.

- Conclude your response: "This is my personal opinion, but I will support whatever decision is made."

For instance: "Considering these advantages, I firmly believe that a flexible work schedule is the best option. However, I will support whatever decision is made."

Following these guidelines, you can craft a well-organized, persuasive, and effective response for CELPIP Writing Task 2.
